RoHS Policy
Classic Components Corporation is fully committed to implementing global environmental solutions that enable our customers, suppliers and organization meet the challenges and guidelines of global environmental compliance.
There are myriad environmental regulations being implemented worldwide that effect all channels of the electronics industry…consumer, supplier, service, manufacturer. The initial environmental initiatives focused on materials with lead content because of lead’s presence in solder pastes.
However, other substances such as mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and numerous fire- retardant chemicals are also on the list of banned substances.
The European Union’s RoHS and WEEE regulations were initially thought to be the most significant and complicated challenges to address. However China, Japan and several states in the U.S. are rapidly implementing their own recycling requirements and restrictions on hazardous substances that present equivalent challenges.
The reality is that regardless of your business, or the role it plays in the electronics manufacturing supply chain, you need to evaluate, adopt and implement a plan for ‘Going Green’.
Classic Components Corporation believes that the critical components to successful environmental compliance is based on the following:
- Access to comprehensive and current information.
- Proactive communication and action with our customers and supply chain partners to identify and implement programs that facilitate environmental compliance.
- Our commitment to rapidly take action, combined with the flexibility to revise and fine-tune our plan contingent on new information relative to environmental guidelines and initiatives
As a valued supply chain partner to thousands of customers worldwide, Classic Components is committed to compliance with global environmental regulations and initiatives.

Classify all in-house inventory relative to lead versus lead-free content Classify all new material purchases relative to lead versus lead-free content. In the event that Classic Components recommends alternate (cross-reference) material due to no availability of customer designed-in material, Classic will be responsible for providing RoHS information
Classic Components Disclaimer on Component Level RoHS Compliance
As a global leader in electronics distribution, it is our perspective that electronic component manufacturers have the primary responsibility for defining the RoHS compliance of all products they manufacture and distribute, and that this information should furthermore be widely published and easily available through all media channels. Classic Components is an independent distributor of electronic components, peripherals and systems. We do NOT manufacture any of the material that we sell.
We service our valued customers by providing electronic components, peripherals and systems that are based on a customer-specific Bill of Materials (BOM) that is typically designed and defined by engineers. The engineers designing the system have the responsibility for creating the system, defining its environmental compliance and ensuring its environmental compliance.
When the engineers have completed designing the system and the decision is reached to manufacture a product, the BOM is passed to procurement professionals also responsible for ensuring worldwide or regional environmental compliance. The engineers and the purchasing professionals receive their design-in RoHS environmental compliance information from electronics component manufacturers and typically create an Approved Vendor’s List (AVL) of approved RoHS compliant components.
Therefore, from our perspective it is inappropriate that Classic Components make representations to customers, or be held accountable by customers, relative to the finite levels of chemical composition utilized in the manufacturing process of electronics components, or specific RoHS content levels of the electronic components that we provide for resale.
Classic Components will invest resources in acquiring and communicating technical information from manufacturers and manufacturer’s web sites that could be useful to customers in determining a component’s RoHS environmental compliance. This information may include manufacturer part numbers, nomenclature, dates of product transition and or compliance that is transferred or linked to the manufacturer’s original documentation.
This information will be provided as a technical service and research aide to our customers in their pursuit of RoHS compliance and do not represent or certify in any way Classic Components guarantee regarding the chemical content or manufacturing process of any specific component. In most instances the specific chemical content of a component, or its manufacturing process, is the sole intellectual property (IP) of the original manufacturer and therefore may be modified or revised at any time.
Classic Components affirms and certifies that we do NOT add any RoHS materials or subject the electrical components to any RoHS manufacturing processes during the administration of our distribution activities.
