CSI principles: Counterfeit Mitigation Plan

High Reliability Supplier Management

Supplier management is all about counterfeit avoidance. At Classic, supplier management is central to our CSI Program, and is guided by a singular rule of forensic analysis: “Facts do not lie; men can and do”. Our ERP-embedded supplier management program is driven by factual data, and is highly sensitive to the operations of global supply chains.

This allows us to proactively eliminate the elevated counterfeiting risks involved in managing obsolescence and material shortages, limiting your exposure to quality-related supply chain failures, as well as quickly responding to unanticipated disruptions such as environmental disasters.

This approach is supported internally by closely monitored global resources, documented supplier audits, and routine supplier reviews done in real time by our Corporate Supplier Review Board (CSRB). In particular, our CSRB is governed by an established chain of command, which allows us to control and centralize the flow of supplier data while preventing cross-contamination of subjective or speculative information for the purpose of applying our highly objective 6-tier supplier rating.

All of this is proof of our unrelenting focus on reliability at the source — choosing Classic means never having to go with an unorthodox source of supply ever again.

Applied Forensic Science: Advanced Investigation, Testing & Analysis

While we have a counterfeit avoidance plan through exceptional supplier management system and in fact rarely encounter counterfeit material, Classic’s objective remains the same, to completely eliminate the risk of counterfeit or sub-standard product from ever entering your supply chain. To achieve this, we are fully prepared to detect and handle counterfeit product by employing advanced forensic investigative and analytical techniques.

Identifying the Scene: The start of our investigation begins by identifying all the unique circumstances surrounding the received product. Our inspectors follow a strict set of preliminary inspection criteria depending on information that is primarily driven by analyzing current circumstantial information such as product type, supplier type and rating, origin of the source supply, as well as authorized third party industry reporting organizations.

Investigative Procedure: After considering all the relevant circumstantial information, we apply a forensic approach to inspection and test procedures. We look for unique identifying characteristics such as residual surface patterns when conducting comparative analysis, as well as identifying product “fingerprints” such as electrical parameters, proprietary identification tags, and precise measurements.

Tools of the Trade: The advent of advanced technological tools and equipment propelled forensic science from a guessing game to one of the most credible and authoritative resources for investigation. Classic utilizes the three core tenets established by forensics units for the evaluation and application of tools in order to properly execute investigative procedures.

1. Sensitivity: As it applies to our industry, sensitivity refers to the specification of the tool necessary to accomplish the objectives. At Classic, we properly evaluate and select tools that meet the specification requirements for a particular application with the necessary adaptability, scalability and extensibility to remain relevant during the tool’s life cycle. It is critical to avoid procuring tools that are excessively overpowered or underpowered for its intended purpose. The correct tool for the job makes the difference between consistent execution and uncertainty.

2. Specificity: As it applies to our industry, specificity refers to the purpose and application of the tool. At Classic, we identify needs, clearly define purposes and analyze every aspect of the requirements to ensure all criteria can be met. By utilizing this approach, we are able to guarantee the efficacy of our tools and as a result, guarantee the accuracy of results.

3. Rapidity: As it applies to our industry, rapidity refers to adaptability and ability to execute within a defined span of time. It is critical for Classic as a service company to select tools that will give us the ability to keep our delivery commitments, or turn around time (TAT). Also, we must ensure high availability and continued relevance of our chosen technology platforms to provide an uninterrupted high level of service for our customers.
